Full time- Copenhagen
Reporting to: Team lead
At MapsPeople, we are entering a pivotal chapter of AI-led transformation and growth. MapsPeople is shaping the future of spatial intelligence and indoor navigation, and we are looking for a Senior Backend / Automation Engineer to help build the next evolution of our platform. If you are passionate about designing scalable backend systems, automating complex workflows, and working close to data and machine learning in production, this role is for you.
The Role
As a Senior Backend / Automation Engineer, you will be a key contributor to the infrastructure and backend services behind the MapsIndoors platform. You will help evolve our platform towards a modern, event-driven, cloud-native architecture, working closely with backend engineers, data teams, and ML engineers. You will play a central role in developing scalable APIs, building and maintaining data workflows using Apache Airflow, automating backend processes, and contributing to how we operationalise machine learning at scale. This is a hands-on senior role with real influence on architecture, reliability, and platform direction.
What You Will Do
- Take a leading role in designing, building, and maintaining workflow orchestration using Apache Airflow, ensuring reliability and transparency across data and ML pipelines.
- Collaborate closely with ML engineers and data teams to support the deployment and operationalisation of machine learning models
- Help define and evolve our platform architecture, ensuring it remains secure, scalable, and maintainable, in close collaboration with the software architect
- Drive automation initiatives across infrastructure, data ingestion, and deployment workflows to reduce manual effort and improve consistency
- Participate actively in code reviews, technical discussions, and mentoring to help raise engineering quality across the team
- Contribute to improving DevOps practices and cloud operations on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including monitoring, alerting, and cost optimisation
What You Bring
- 8+ years of experience as a professional software engineer, with strong backend fundamentals
- 5+ years of experience building distributed backend systems, APIs, or automation workflows
- Strong proficiency in Python, with experience working in data-heavy environments
- Experience utilising AI tooling and LLMs, or strong curiosity and motivation to explore this space
- Proficiency with cloud-native technologies such as Kubernetes and OpenTelemetry
- Hands-on experience with Apache Airflow in a production setting
- Experience with cloud platforms, preferably Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including infrastructure as code, containerisation (Docker), and CI/CD pipelines
- A strong understanding of system design, performance optimisation, and clean architecture principles
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally and occasionally represent technical perspectives in discussions with partners or customers
Bonus:
- Familiarity with deploying or supporting machine learning models in production
- Experience with C# .NET
Who You Are
You are a senior engineer who enjoys solving complex problems and thinking in systems. You are comfortable balancing architectural thinking with hands-on implementation and thrive in collaborative, cross-functional environments. You value clean solutions, automation, and building platforms that scale over time. You bring curiosity, ownership, and a continuous improvement mindset to your work.
Why MapsPeople?
- A global platform used by large enterprise customers
- The opportunity to influence architecture and own critical backend and automation systems
- A collaborative engineering culture that values quality, learning, and long-term thinking
- Opportunities to work with data, cloud, automation, and AI-driven technologies
- Flexible working arrangements, with the option to work from our offices or remotely within Denmark
